April Home Maintenance in northern New Jersey
April is water month. Spring rain meets winter debris, and the two systems that protect your house, gutters above and the sump pump below, both need to be ready at once.
We test the sump pump before the storm that proves it, clean the gutters before they overflow into fascia, and walk the roof line and foundation for whatever winter left behind.
On the April checklist
- Test sump pump. Inspect sump basin for issues. (inspect unsealed basins only) Address odors if present.
- Inspect humidifier water panel. Descale or replace as needed.
- Inspect & clean gutters (Includes 100 feet of gutter under 'normal' conditions not exceeding 22' above ground)
- Visual inspection of roof & foundation
- Monitor softener salt and furnace filter. Fill/replace as needed.
- Visual inspection of home exterior addressing minor issues like caulk repairs, vent obstructions, insects, accessible wasp nests, etc.
- As time allows, address items on homeowner's to-do list. See list of common services below.
Covered by your maintenance plan
Every membership visit in April works through this checklist, then puts the remaining time toward your own to-do list. Two hours on Basic, four on Premium, booked on a live calendar with no double-booking.
April is historically one of northern New Jersey's wettest months. A working sump pump is the cheapest flood insurance a basement can have.
