August Home Maintenance in northern New Jersey
August is safety month. The garage door, the heaviest moving object in your home, gets every hinge, spring, and roller lubricated and its safety shut-off properly tested.
Fire extinguishers get checked the same visit, because the right time to find a dead gauge is any time other than the moment you need it.
On the August checklist
- Descale dishwasher and clean out drain filter
- Lubricate all garage door hinges, springs, bearings, rollers, and pivot points
- Test garage safety shut-off
- Inspect fire extinguisher(s)
- Inspect under all sinks for water issues/damage
- Monitor softener salt and furnace filter. Fill/replace as needed.
- Visual inspection of home exterior addressing minor issues like caulk repairs, vent obstructions, insects, accessible wasp nests, etc.
- As time allows, address items on homeowner's to-do list. See list of common services below.
